Davina Quinlivan: Storytrails

Davina Quinlivan’s ‘ICONS of Exeter: Six Storytrails of Myth, Migration and Folklore’ involves the research and development of six storytrails focused on the intertwining themes of myth, migration and folklore. Inspired by 6 iconic symbols (objects, statues, waterways) associated with the history and heritage of Exeter, the trails will feature a specific ‘discovery’ walk through hidden, strange or ‘mythical’ places within St Davids; along the way, the trail will also feature a mini piece of creative writing by an Exeter-based emerging writer (ages 18-30).

The trails blend historical, factual information with an imaginative and playful approach to storytelling inspired by real places. This approach enables innovation and a generative, inventive shift away from conventional walks or tours in our city. Through mentorship activity, the involvement of the participants will help to shape perspectives and celebrate a sense of place, forging new connections and highlighting the role of Exeter’s rich heritage which lives on today through the experiences of the diverse participants. The trails will also highlight the role of environmental issues, inclusivity and sustainability in the city.

Davina will lead all six trails in one day during a special celebratory event which will kick off the publication of the trails in February. The one-day event will culminate in a small, celebratory gathering in the Bookbag bookshop for contributors to the trails and their guests.
